I’ve never been a big fan of fairytales. Especially with two young daughters, I wanted to approach parenting with a “no expectations” kind of attitude and let them choose their own place in the world, their likes and dislikes, etc., without feeling societal pressures to be “princessy” or whatever other girly role the world might want to assign to them – whether they fit the mold or not.
Okay, lest it’s not clear by the title what I think of the star of the movie John Carter, let me just say it again in plain terms: the man is hot. I usually don’t get all impressed by the pretty boy type, but there’s something a little more than meets the eye with this guy in my opinion. Maybe it’s the Johnny Deppish-ness (who I think, btw, takes pretty-boyness to a whole new level!!), or maybe it’s just now that I’m in the so-called sexual peak of my 40′s, I can totally appreciate the value of a bit of “man candy”.
Transformers Rescue Bots featuring Optimus Prime and a new crew of Rescue Bots premieres Saturday, February 18th, 2012.
To be honest, my kids don’t get to watch much TV these days since we got rid of our TV almost 3 years ago. We still have a weekly “movie night” where we watch a DVD on the family computer, unless we decide to go out and see a movie in the theater. But my kids get FAR less TV exposure than I did as a child.
Even before my daughter was enrolled in the Japanese Language Immersion kindergarten that she currently attends, my kids really liked Japanese Anime films. This was mostly due to their having seen the movie My Neighbor Totoro on one of our family movie nights. Although it was quite different from the cartoons that they had been used to seeing at the time, they were immediately drawn in by the amusing characters and the touching story of two sisters who befriend a couple of helpful, mythical creatures.
I finished up a few more chapters this week, up to page 80. This book is really an easy read and as it flows along smoothly from one instruction to the next, I find myself nodding in agreement at every page. It reminds me of the saying that when the student is ready, the teacher will appear. It may seem so simple, but there are things being said in the book that just make the idea of putting pen to paper to write a story seem so much easier than it used to – finally.
“I saw a home movie once of a birthday party I went to in the first grade, with all these cute little boys and girls playing together like puppies, and all of a sudden I scuttled across the screen like Prufrock’s crab. I was very clearly the one who was going to grow up to be a serial killer, or keep dozens and dozens of cats.”
Well, things have been evolving here at Biz Mommy over the past few weeks. I feel like I’m overflowing with ideas and getting much more focused about what I want to write. That being said, although I’ve had fun experimenting with giveaways and promotional-type posts that were strictly about building relationships with sponsors and getting more traffic, I decided I want to go in a bit of a different direction with giveaways.
