OXFAM Unwrapped: You Are What You Give
‘Tis the season of giving, sure, but who says you can’t have a little fun while you’re at it?
OXFAM Unwrapped is offering donors the opportunity to give a symbolic gift which will serve to help people living in poverty around the world.
Want to go “whole hog” and give the gift of a pig? Or maybe your “green” savvy friend would appreciate your offering of a field of organic cotton. If you feel like sharing something a little more traditional, you can even give the gift of a song.
How it Works
Oxfam America is a member of the international confederation Oxfam, 17 organizations working together in 94 countries. The gift items in their “Unwrapped” catalog are based on actual projects funded by Oxfam worldwide. The purchase of each gift is a contribution toward Oxfam’s many programs, not a donation to a specific project or goal. Your donation will be used where it is needed the most – to help people living in poverty around the world.
1. You choose a gift from the Unwrapped catalog.
2. Your friend/family member gets a card with a picture of the gift (or you can have the gift delivered to you so you can add your own personal message).
3. Your donation goes to help the people who need it, and where it will have the greatest impact: to improve the lives of people living in poverty.

With five years to go, sub-Saharan Africa and the Pacific are the two regions of the world falling most dangerously behind in progress toward achieving the MDGs. In the Pacific, four million people live in poverty – that’s almost half the total population. Nearly 18,000 children die every year, many from preventable causes.
