When I first began my entrepreneurial journey, I had absolutely no clue about the HUGE learning curve that lay ahead of me. All I knew was that I had some great ideas that were burning to be brought to fruition and loads of energy and ambition to build a business of my own. I was so worried about and focused on getting clients that when I started to make money, all I did was count the earnings I had coming in – without accounting for many of my growing expenditures. Needless to say, this didn’t make for an accurate picture of how well my business was doing.

Fast forward several years and MANY lessons later, I have a detailed income & expense sheet and a solid system for keeping track of what earnings are coming in and what money is going out to support my business. As a hypnotherapist one of my most important expenses is insurance. Early on, this is one of the items that fell by the wayside in my planning, simply because I didn’t yet understand the need for it.

If, like me, insurance has been left off the list of expenses for your business, you need to start pricing options. Just as life or health insurance is crucial for protecting your family and your budget, business insurance will insure that your company doesn’t suffer any unforeseen losses. As a small business, just one unfortunate incident could wipe your company out.

Since rules vary from state to state, it’s important to know what the insurance requirements are for your particular state. I live in Los Angeles, so I have California business insurance that is specific to practicing hypnotherapy in this state. If you’re also in California you can get business insurance quotes through the California Department of Insurance or for other states you can simply Google local business insurance rates. Please don’t put off this type of planning…you’ve worked too hard to let all of your entrepreneurial efforts go up in smoke simply because you experienced a misfortune and didn’t have the proper insurance coverage to protect your business.
