Dropping the Ball…No, Wait, I’ve GOT This!

Posted by Tisha in Personal Development, Relationships |

Okay, I admit it.  I dropped the ball.  It all started with the Biz Mommy of the Week.  You know how it is – when you have that entrepreneurial itch…ugh, that sounds a bit like a disease, let me start again.

So, once I was happy with the overall look of my blog, I started getting all these ideas about content that I wanted to include on it.  Only problem was, I would have needed 10 clones of myself to get all that I wanted to accomplish done this year.  So I heeded the very sage advice I kept hearing from every small business owner worth her salt these days, and I reached out for help.  And I got it.  Lots of it.  So much, in fact, that I’m now booked up with weekly guests for my Blog Talk Radio show until mid-September,  I have tons of cool freebies lined up for the Biz Mommy Monthly Giveaway and I have more guest posters waiting in the wings than I know what to do with.

Ah yes, about those guest posts.  I have been very lucky to have some really smart people contributing to my content over the last couple of weeks.  I so appreciate their participation here and I enjoyed reading their articles.   But I’ve noticed something interesting happening over the past few weeks.   It’s the sound of crickets…and not the ones in my backyard.   See, I’m pretty new to blogging and I’ll be perfectly honest and say that when I got my first few comments, I was SO excited!  The sight of that big red dot on the side of my WordPress dashboard was a thing of sheer beauty.  Two comments turned into four, then turned into six, and I was just beside myself when this post got double digit comments!   Then I got all cocky and turned over the reins while I started up with those pesky ideas again (ooh, can I fit just one more widget over here and OOOOh, let me try some video content, that’s hot right?  Uh, not when said video is seventeen minutes long - with nothing but updates about other people’s events!!!!…but that’s a #fail story for another day).

Anywhen, although my intention was in the spirit of creativity, my blog is just too new to be handing over eight out of ten posts to guests.  Writers write, right?  So, although I will still feature a Biz Mommy of the Week and welcome one guest poster on Fridays, the rest of the posts in the week will be served up fresh and hot by none other than yours truly.

And to my blogging friends who may have noticed that I unsubscribed from your blog, I did not abandon!   I simply switched over from email subscription to reading all of your wonderful posts in my feed reader; much neater that way.

So crickets be gone, okay?  Bloggy friends let me hear you…I’m here for some conversation!!!

  • Aaw, dear Tisha!
Thank you for your sincere blog post. I loved it.
Yes, red dots with comments are the best reward after writing a blog. And I believe I will not get tired of it, ever.
I am looking forward, to read more of YOUR stories!

Can you hear the sound of huge rocking falling to the ground? Yes? That is a stone, which fell down from my heart out of relief, that you have subscribed to RSS feed of my blog after unsubscribing from email ;-)
    HUGS

Oh, Ivana…you made me laugh out loud today! :-) I’m so glad I was able to relieve your disappointment; your blog posts are one of the highlights of my weekly online travels. Unsubscribe from your wonderful light? Never!

I know we’ve connected via twitter, but I’m really very grateful to have you back here again as part of the blog community as well.

      Have an awesome day! xoxo

  • Good to see you have a fast learning curve Tisha. Blogging has all these small but important details which need to be in their right places.

      Hi Eduard!
So glad to see you back here…yes, I’m finding there is a LOT to learn. And just when I think I’ve got a handle on things, another lesson comes down the pike! But through it all, the writing will continue; lesson learned :-)
      Thanks for stopping by!

    Hi Tisha,

Good riddance to those pesky crickets!

I’m in agreement with your conclusion about guest posts. Those posts may have been wonderful (I’ll never know for sure, because I barely glanced at them), but I subscribed to your blog because of you.

Rather than looking at it as dropping the ball, I’d view your experiment with guest posters as being just one in many efforts that we all make to improve our blogs. I’ve gone through a number of changes myself and have decided that the writing is the only part of my blog that makes it unique to me, so I focus most of my attention on that. I still often hear crickets (especially when I take on a controversial subject) but I’m satisfied that my efforts reflect the genuine me.

    Welcome back. :) Ray

    • Tisha says:

Thanks Ray! You’re so right about focusing on the writing; it can be tempting to get caught up in trying to compete with the Joneses and before you know it you lose sight of why you created the blog in the first place. And for me, at least, at the end of the day it wasn’t the look of the blog that I was thinking about, it was the fact that I missed connecting with my new online friends. Thanks for hanging in there through my trial and error; I really appreciate and enjoy your presence here.

Welcome back to you too! :-)

  • Tisha: one step at a time…that has been what I have learned since I have been blogging. The great thing is that as long as you are committed to taking the steps, you learn so much about what you are doing and yourself. This is definitely one of those times when the quote, it is not about the destination, but rather the journey is applicable. Looking forward to reading more of your great posts.

You’re so right Sibyl! It is all about enjoying the journey…even when you have to take your lumps and do a u-turn. Thanks for stopping by and commenting, I truly appreciate the support!

I know sometimes my “Go Tisha” type comments might be a little cheesy for a professional site like yours but sometimes I am so bursting with pride and love I can’t help myself. “Go Tisha!”

Oh Tisha, overeating just doesn’t happen with food only, does it? It is tempting to grab and participate in all the is on offer, sure. I think most of us realized that we had a tiger by the tail with our blogs at some point. I have been there and done that and like you had to backtrack. But the main thing I have found is ‘talking’, letting us know with your email about changing feeds and this post what is going on so our ego imagination is not running away with us either.
You go girl, we only learn from our experiences. I am right behind you and I am loving your doing and your learning. Nothing is more valuable than sharing our experiences, xox Wilma

    • Tisha says:

Aww, thanks so much Wilma…your support really means a lot to me. The work that you do and your site have been a big inspiration for me to continue moving in the direction that I envisioned for my business. I’m so glad to have you stop by, as always, with your wonderful warmth and words of wisdom. And yes, talking through things, more often than not, is what makes me feel “back in balance” when I feel uncomfortable with something. Here’s to doing and learning…and enjoying every minute of it!
