Biz Mommy of the Week: Jennifer Davey

Posted by Tisha on May 10, 2010 in Biz Mommy of the Week |

This Week’s Biz Mommy of the Week is Jennifer Davey of JJS Coaching. Jennifer is a marketing coach who’s website is full of useful articles and resources to help small business owners get clients and grow their businesses into a satisfying and profitable enterprise. Please be sure to pay her a visit at her blog or connect with her on Facebook.  And don’t forget to leave your comments below to help her feel welcome here in the Biz Mommy community!

When did you first start your business?

In 1998 and it’s been a terrific journey. Although the Mommy portion started just 21 months ago and it was a real life changer!

Describe a little bit about what you do; what do you hope people will get from your message?

I am a Business Coach, Marketing Strategist, and Speaker. I help small businesses and self-employed professionals grow their businesses and develop strategies for getting clients, building business, and making more income.

Why did you choose your particular business?

I was providing marketing consulting and digital strategy consulting (aka, helping businesses get clients) and I realized that as a coach I could do more than implement a successful marketing strategy. As a coach I could help those same folks create successful and profitable businesses that help them create a life they love.

What are some of the challenges you faced when you started your business?

My biggest challenge was learning to coach, rather than consult. Going back to school was fun and humbling.

How did you know that you had chosen the right path?

Every day I receive confirmation that I chose the right path. After every session I am excited, invigorated and fulfilled. Being part of my client’s success is inspiring. When I see them create the business of their dreams it’s the cherry on top.

What does a day in your work at home life look like?

Every morning I get my daughter up, dressed and breakfasted and bring her to pre-school. I usually have clients or marketing scheduled first thing in the morning and group coaching and webinars in the afternoon. I regularly attend a variety of different networking meetings and speak for different groups.

Except for rare occasions, I stop working at 5 on the dot and either pick up my daughter or start dinner (our family schedule). We have family dinner every night (my wonderful husband, my daughter and my step-children). I try not to work at night very often.

What does working for yourself and living your passion ultimately mean to you?

It means I get to do something I love, control my own income and have time for the things that matter most to me, like family.

What advice do you have for other women and moms looking to make the transition to working from home?

Don’t try to do it alone in a vacuum! Hire a coach, a VA, find a mentor, network, and connect. Don’t say you can’t afford it. The truth is you can’t afford not to.

Is there anything else in particular that you would like to offer to the Biz Mommy community?
