The Belly of the Blog

Posted by Tisha on June 17, 2010 in Blogging, Business Development, Inspiration |

I fought against it. I procrastinated. I distracted myself with “stuff”. I had lots of ideas. And I had a list. A very long list.
Oh, I had lots of names for what I was doing: planning, preparing, learning, building, growing, starting a business. There was only one “ing” that was missing (? ha, that’s not it – aaargh!  more distraction!).  No, the “ing” I’m talking about is DOing.

Now, one may argue that those things I mentioned above are “Doing” type of things.  I beg to differ.  While they are certainly filled with movement, they are devoid of purpose, except to – you, got it – keep me busy.  You see, of all the things I’ve realized over the past 10 or 15 years, one of the most important is that you can spend a LOT of time going nowhere fast.  In no way does this mean I think I’ve gone nowhere; but it does mean I understand much more about the areas in which I was giving in to my fears and allowing myself to be distracted from my goals.  And the interesting thing is that I didn’t even always know what my goals were – it was more that I had a “sense” of them…Read More»»»

  • Tisha: I love this post and the advice at the end is nothing short of great … sometimes the best thing we really can do is to consistently show up with passion. It was great to hear about your journey and the different business ventures. I couldn’t agree more that it really is about working things out, finding answers, finding your truth and then figuring out how to bring all of that together so that it culminates in you living out your purpose. Great post. Thanks for sharing your story.

How wonderful, I’m here from Mom Loop Friday Follow – I’m so glad you posted there. I’ve never been so coordinated with my blog – it’s random – just like my life. My only problem as you mentioned is the showing up. I’ve been putting a lot more effort into it since joining Blog Frog.

Feel free to come over and follow if you like what you see.

    Tisha,
I enjoyed this post as it sums up this last year for me. So many things I have wanted to DO, just not DOing. This past month I’ve really stepped it up. I’ve been more active in blogging and am taking (or at least trying) to take time to write my own version of a Geology curriculum for homeschoolers. Been on my heart to do for so long!

      Hi Lisa!
I know it is so easy to get overwhelmed with all we have to do that the blogging always seems to get short shrift. Good for you, though, that you’ve taken some control and decided to “step things up”. I am absolutely in AWE of those of you who have chosen to homeschool – kudos for finding the time and making the commitment to such an important endeavor! An admirable choice indeed…
Thanks so much for your comments!

  • “But the simple answer is to show up. Consistently. With your passion. And write.”

    AMEN to that!

    Hi Tisha,

I really enjoyed learning a bit about your journey after reading this post! So much of the struggle in whether or not we are successful at something is all about just “showing up”! Great insight!

I wanted to mention something that I am not sure if you are aware of or not, but it’s a little confusing as to how to comment after reading one of your awesome posts. When I first arrive on your blog and I read the post, there is no place to comment at first. When I click on the title of the most recent post, it opens up a new page that displays the article and your comment area. I really enjoy the feedback that I receive on my blog and I am sure that you do, too, so I thought you might want to know that just in case anyone else is having the same problem.

    Warmly,
    Debbie

      Hi Debra,
Nice to “see” you again! And yes, for me there are some days when even showing up is a challenge – you know, those “I wish I could stay in bed all day with the covers over my head” kinda days! :-)
Thanks for mentioning the issue with the comments – I’ve actually wondered also if people were having trouble with figuring out that they had to click the little sticky note icon to get to the comments page. So last week, I started breaking the posts up into 2 pages, so readers would have an easy “Read More” button that will take them to the second page which has the spaces for comments.
      Anyway…thanks for stopping by!
